Existing waste to energy facilities processing municipal waste tend to be larger in scale for cities, and there is still a shortage of regional facilities for smaller towns due in part to policy decisions to pursue the large, centralised plant model but also technology development and funding.

Ecofein specialises in small to medium scale, modular thermo-chemical conversion systems and in association with its engineering and other specialist OEM vendors in water treatment, boilers and steam generation, steam turbine generators, emission controls and integrated automation control work together to provide a waste and waste derived fuel processing facility with a planned operational life span of 25 years or more.
Ecofein™ Systems can process a very wide range of waste types with variable heat value and moisture contents and there is rarely any requirement to pre-process the waste although sorted and treated wastes can be processed also.
The extended residence time of the waste batch in the primary chambers allows the Ecofein™ Technology to efficiently process most wastes without pre-treatment such as shredding. Liquid wastes and sludges can be injected either into the primary or secondary chambers depending on the waste composition.
